CT Implementation Stage 1 & 2

Location - Melbourne Airport

Relevance to Melbourne Airport

Our CT Implementation project at Melbourne Airport included the implementation of a variety of machines and other supplies to maintain security in a live environment. This involved:

  • Complete building works in Terminal 4 Passenger screening to install two new iLanes and CT Machines to Lanes 1 and 6 and two Rapiscan Body Scanners
  • Coordination with Smiths Detection on site and installation of power and data accordingly
  • Coordination with Rapiscan on site and installation of power and data supplies
  • Complete works in Terminal 2 international passenger screening to install seven Smith Detection CT Machines, nine Vanderlande decision belts and lane reconfiguration

The Challenges

In addition to the scope of the project, the MAZ Group team was required to implement strategies to avoid disrupting the day-to-day operations of the airport and nearby corporate offices. The team also needed to safely and securely interchange the scanning equipment.

Our Solutions

Our works were being undertaken on Level 2, nearby APAM corporate offices in Terminal 4. For this reason, we conducted any noisy works, works that cause vibrations, and works that can be seen of a disruptive nature out of business hours. We also adopted strategic handling strategies for the interchanging of the scanning equipment.

Our Key Outcomes

Through meticulous planning of the works, we were able to coordinate our operations around those of Melbourne Airport. We succeeded in minimising the impact of our project on airport operations by way of value management and redesign.

Key People and Stakeholders

The key people in the project included Martin Craggill, Tom Sandow, Alan Wilson, and Tein Ouk.

The key complex stakeholders included Melbourne Airport, Jetstar, Security Services, Adjoining Retailers, Rapiscan, Smiths Detection, the public and passengers.
